Our upcoming unit: Grammar and Writing Skills
Reading:
Selected chapters from Mother West Wind’s Friends by Thornton Burgess
Writing: We will be writing a persuasive & informative essay doing this unit.
Grammar: We will be reviewing the following grammar topics. This unit will be specially focused on grammar and writing.
The nine parts of speech: nouns, pronouns verbs, adverbs, adjectives, prepositions, articles, interjections & conjunctions.
Sentence diagramming
Simple tense verbs: past, present and future
1st, 2nd, 3rd person pronouns
Poetry: Two selected poems will be studied and memorized during this unit.
Homework: Homework is unique, open-ended and assigned with your child’s skills and interests in mind. Students can expect 1-2 homework assignments on each non-class day.
Grade 6
Tuesdays & Thursdays: 3:50pm EST/ 12:50pm PST

Reading: We will continue reading Kidnapped! by Robert Louis Stevenson. We will finish Kidnapped during this unit.
Writing: We will be writing persuasive essays during this unit.
Grammar: We will be reviewing clauses and phrases, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions, and simple, compound and complex sentences.
We will also be reviewing the nine parts of speech, the perfect verbs tenses and sentences diagramming.
Poetry: Two selected poems will be studied and memorized during this unit.
Homework: Homework is unique, open-ended, and assigned with your child’s skills and interests in mind. Students can expect 2 homework assignments on each non-class day.

Our upcoming unit: Victorian Era Literature Part 2
Reading: We will be reading several short stories and/or excerpts from three famous Victorian Era Writers: Charles Dickens, Robert Louis Stevenson and Arthur Conan Doyle.
Writing: We will be writing persuasive essays during this unit.
Grammar: We will be reviewing clauses and phrases, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions, and simple, compound and complex sentences.
We will also be reviewing the nine parts of speech, the perfect verbs tenses and sentences diagramming.
Poetry: Two selected poems will be studied and memorized during this unit.
Homework: Homework is unique, open-ended, and assigned with your child’s skills and interests in mind. Students can expect 2-3 homework assignments on each non-class day.
There is currently no class for grades 5 & 7.
However, please reach out! We can possibly build a class for your child at a day and time that works for you!
Instead of a full hour, these classes will be 30 minute, 1-on-1 classes, and they will be open for other equal level students to join at the beginning of each new unit.
